Personal Development Plan Tutorial with Heather

We discussed my ideas to develop textiles and garments that express something of the nature of God, to market within faith communities. She thought words, like those I used in my summer work, can be a barrier and encouraged me to look at more subtle expression.

  • keep sampling and be less concerned about the outcome.
  • look at the way that artists communicate ideas.

Student Curator Work Experience

We have booked the Holden gallery cafe at the end of November for an RCA Secret postcard style, fund raising exhibition for our degree show. As a result of this I have taken on a general Student Curator role assisting Martin Dexter with the exhibition space used by students. I think this will help me in the preparation for our exhibition and provide an art context to my previous experience as a project manager.

I made a list of 125 artists from Embroidery and Selvedge magazines for students to approach for postcard donations. (4 hours)

Hussein Chalayan - Récits de Mode

Chalayan's collections are full of meaning and witty electronics like the Kaikoku (Japanese for 'open country') dress decorated with crystal pollens, which can be released to symbolise pollination of ideas.
I like the idea of creating garments with spiritual meaning.

Première Vision Paris

A visual feast, with ribbons and embroidery my favourite section,
but sadly no photos allowed to retain commercial privacy.
The company websites also give very little away.
Ellie Saab uses a lot of embellishment of the type of fabrics I saw.
